Memory Making with Top Days Out in South Devon

It’s great to spend quality time away with friends and family and making those ‘remember when…’ memories. As we enter Summer here in South Devon there are plenty of exciting events and days out for capturing those moments and opportunities to make special celebrations extra special, like a day at your own personally sponsored races! We’ve put together some of our favourites that are sure to make your stay one to remember.

Where?  Brixham
When?   Saturday 26th - Wednesday 30th May 2018
Memory Making with Top Days Out in South Devon
The multi-award winning BrixFest returns to Brixham opening on the Saturday to a smorgasbord of cooking demonstrations from local chefs using local produce (fish naturally, as it’s Brixham!) and sponsored by England’s Seafood Coast, so remember to take a napkin as you’ll get to taste the fruits of their labour. The festival runs for 5 days falling nicely into the half term and providing the ideal day out for families.
Take in the talent of local musicians and festival food before the first day goes out with a bang with the Grand Fireworks display at 9.50pm followed by the Dragon Boat Challenge on the Sunday. Don’t fret if you’re unable to make it to Brixham on the weekend as festivities continue into the week with a Children’s Day on the Monday at Breakwater Beach, a Crabbing Competition on the Tuesday and a Vintage Car Rally on the Wednesday. Where?  Paignton Green
When?   Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd June 2018
Memory Making with Top Days Out in South Devon
From the sea to the sky with the relatively new but phenomenally popular English Riviera Airshow returning for its third year of breathtaking air displays across the waters of Torbay. The beauty of this event, apart from it being free, are the variety of viewpoints from which you can enjoy it, from Torquay Harbour right along the coast to Paignton Green where the event village is situated. This year’s show is set to feature the mighty Typhoon and crowd pleasers The Blades aerobatic team, Autogyro, Strikemaster Display UK,  RAF Tutor Display Team and guests from the Norwegian Air Force Historical Squadron!   The entertainment continues on the ground with displays, activities, exhibition stands, food and drink and a fairground.  Watch the Facebook page for the latest news and updates on aircraft announcements. Use the pre-bookable park and ride if not already in the area as the roads in and out of Torbay will be very busy and parking limited. The park and ride is situated as such that it has great panoramic views of the bay and if you’re lucky enough to bagsy a seat on the top deck of the bus you’ll get to see a whole load more as the bus meanders down to the seafront.

Where?  Bovey Tracey

The Contemporary Craft Festival returns to Bovey Tracey this June. Over 200 makers of contemporary craft including award winning silversmiths, potters, furniture makers, textile artists, glass makers, jewellery, 3D printing and even surfboards come together for this annual celebration of craft.
There’s a children’s craft tent to entertain the younger ones, live music and a great selection of tasty street food on offer. Not only do you get to admire and purchase craft, you also have the opportunity to watch demonstrations and join workshops - they’re hugely popular so book early!

Memory Making with Top Days Out in South Devon
Whether you like a flutter or not, a day at the races is always an event and we are lucky to have two near to us here at Long Barn. Closest is Newton Abbot Racecourse and a little further is Exeter Racecourse - both host National Hunt races throughout the year and have evolved into entertainment venues for a variety of  events too. Check out Newton Abbot Racecourse’s Diary of Events as they often have family events like the forthcoming South West Auto Sport Show on Sunday 20 May 2018. If you are away for a group celebration both courses have excellent hospitality packages and private boxes for 12 to 100 people, many of which provide a spectacular view of the course, catering, a visit from a jockey and access to the Paddock. Download Newton Abbot Racecourse’s 2018 Brochure for more details. Make the day extra special by placing a message in the race day programme or go all out by purchasing the naming rights to a race or even the whole day!  Tickets are available online, by calling 01626 353235 or visiting the racecourse office.
